Problem

Chess players who participate in tournaments traditionally record their games using pencil and paper notation. However, these handwritten notes are frequently lost or misplaced, preventing players from recreating and analyzing their games for improvement.

Currently, no application exists that can scan and convert handwritten chess notation into standard PGN (Portable Game Notation) files. While existing apps like Cheeify allow users to scan and upload images of chessboards to capture specific board positions, they lack the capability to process complete game notation.

Notationary fills this critical gap by enabling chess players to scan their handwritten game notes, automatically digitize the notation, and convert it into a format suitable for analysis, replay, and sharing. This innovative solution preserves valuable game data and makes it accessible for ongoing study and improvement.
